The Viewing of a Spatial Threshold

The core concept of this object is the viewer's position within the space of the artwork. The object serves as a wall on which the virtual space is presented, acting as the central piece both conceptually and literally. As a viewer, you are meant to navigate around it and observe it. This is a real space within the real world serving as an entrance to virtual space. Through digital interaction, the viewer takes a direct position in the virtual space, existing at the boundary between two realms. In this way the installation is divided into a real space and a virtual space, both of which can be entered from two individual sides. The scene represents a conceptual intervention in the studio space, with a wall dividing the space into two interconnected aspects. Overarching motif of a "classroom" symbolizes the institution, pointing to the world where certain kind of creation takes place.

 

C R Y P T E D S K Y is the name for the virtual space of this piece. At the core is an industrial building that functions as a studio. This space is filled with sketches, drawings, worktables, and artifacts, representing the creative process. The chaotic environment symbolizes the pressures of creation, with tools and materials scattered about. Windows within this space symbolize the desire to escape, showing a view of nature beyond structured glass. However, these windows cannot be passed through, emphasizing the tension between the desire for escape and the reality of confinement. The virtual space thus immerses viewers in a fictional reality that reflects the artist’s perception of their creative process and the pressures associated with it.To enter the outside virtual space behind the windows, the viewer must walk around the physical wall present at the installation, where they can enter a romanticized natural environment outside the studio. Here, the viewer encounters an idealized view of nature, with light rays and plants meticulously arranged to portray perfect beauty. This space represents an escape from the pressures of creation, hidden behind the old CRT TV screen on which this space is presented.
